Public liability
Public Liability Insurance is designed to protect you from claims made by a third party or client, where they have said you have caused them bodily injury and/or property damage.
The public Liability policy will respond to defend you against an allegation i.e. the legal costs, and then, should you be neglectful in your duties the public liability policy will pay damages awarded up to the limit you have chosen, the public liability policy can cover such things as:
- Motor contingent liability
- Leased hired and rented premises
- Health and safety at work – Legal defence costs
- Cross Liability
- Bona – fide subcontractors
- Data protection Act – Liabilities arising
- Including Product liability
Most if not all businesses do have exposure to risks:
- Injury to any persons
- Loss or damage to property
- Obstruction, nuisance, trespass or interference with rights of way, of air, light, water or others
- Wrongful detention imprisonment emotional, arrest or invasion of the right to privacy
There are many conditions, exclusions and warranties that can apply to public liability Insurance policies so you need to check carefully the public Liability policy wordings and conditions and seek professional advice such as an Independent insurance broker.
There is no requirement by how to hold public Liability Insurance; however, horse riding establishments are required to have public liability. You will notice nowadays however that many companies will not do business with you unless you have Public Liability Insurance.
